Martin E. Harper/ NAPM-NI Volunteer Award
NAPM - NORTHWEST INDIANA
Martin E. Harper, considered the founder of this
local affiliate, gave birth to the concept of what is today NAPM-NI.
Marty was a member of PMA of Chicago, but found the cost of dues,
and the distance to drive for meetings restrictive for buyers
of Northwest Indiana. Sometime during the first calendar quarter
of 1987, Marty initiated contacts with both National PMA (Purchasing
Management Association, now ISM) and John Pressley, C.P.M., Executive
Director of the PMA of Chicago to establish a local affiliate.
Since that first year, 1987, NAPM-NI has been fortunate
to have volunteers such as Marty Harper, who's hard work carried
this organization forward each and every year. In an effort to
recognize the hard work and dedication of these volunteers it
was decided to initiate the Martin E. Harper/ NAPM-NI Volunteer
Award during the 2003 business year. The purpose of this award
is to recognize the efforts of a current member for their outstanding
efforts during the year. The president will solicit the board
and membership for nominees for this award, and a vote by membership
will be taken at our annual May meeting to select the recipient.
The selected recipient will be recognized throughout the following
year with credits in our monthly newsletter, recognition on the
NAPM-NI web site, as well as a years paid membership to NAPM-NI.
A certificate will be sent to that person's employer acknowledging
their volunteer efforts to NAPM-NI and the purchasing profession.
It is hoped that this award program will nurture the recruitment
of future volunteers to NAPM-NI, and continue that vision that
Martin E. Harper started.
